Flakturm 1946 – Volkspark Humboldthain

Humboldthain Flakturm is one of the three anti-aircraft bunkers built in Berlin during the war following an order from Hitler in August 1940. The purpose was to protect Berlin from Allied aircrafts. The bunker has also been used as a civil protection bunker with room for 15,000 people and with a hospital. The bunker complex has been partially destroyed after the French in 1948 tried to blow it up.

You can walk around the area freely, but if you want to enter the bunker itself, you have to buy a guided tour. As the level of information is very high, it is recommended to choose trips in your own mother tongue, if possible even if you feel that you can manage in German or English on a daily basis.

In recent years, the bunker has also been used for repelling and other sports activities

The association "Berliner Unterwelten" worked for years to get the bunker open to the public and since April 2004 it has been open to visitors.
