Berlin - Hochbunker Pallasstraße

Hochbunker Pallasstraße

The high bunker in Pallasstraße is four storeys high and was built in 1944-1945 by Russian forced laborers and was to be used for the accommodation of telecommunications people. Shortly after the war, the Allies tried to blow up the 4-meter-thick pile, but without much success. Subsequently, they chose to build a residential block over the bunker instead of blowing it up, as it would cause great damage to the surrounding buildings. During the Cold War, the facility was extensively rebuilt and in an emergency, the civil defense could house 4,700 people in the bunker.
